RAINS – Hamburg
Hamburg marks a further evolution of RAINS’ global retail concept: a long, linear space where symmetry, perspective, and repetition are pushed forward and depth draws you in.
Theatrical in its proportions, restrained in its expression, it reimagines classical order through a contemporary lens, setting a clear rhythm within the natural flow of the environment.
Brief
The brief was to adapt the global RAINS concept to a new location: a narrow, elongated footprint of striking proportions, set within a city with a strong identity. Rather than softening these constraints, the design leans into them: perspective, alignment, and repetition become active tools, amplifying rhythm and continuity and setting the stage for the collection to shine – tactile, technical, and built to stand the test of time.
Architecture & Design
Linear Interior
The store’s long, linear layout is fully embraced, framed by classical principles such as symmetry, alignment, and progression. Angled walls subtly manipulate perspective from the very first view through the storefront, exaggerating depth and pulling visitors inward. Textured walls run uninterrupted along the space, while repeated patterns guide movement naturally from entrance to rear.
Continuous Grid
The RAINS grid takes centre stage in Hamburg.Integrated into the tiled flooring, it runs uninterrupted through the store and continues onto the raised rear level. This rhythm is echoed by the LED ceiling installation and aligns with the cadence of the building’s exterior, creating a strong sense of continuity between inside and out.
Material Precision
Stainless steel fixtures – shelving, counters, and fitting room volumes – introduce a sharp counterpoint to the rough walls. Perforations, fasteners, and modular panels are left visible, reinforcing RAINS’ functional DNA and industrial clarity while sitting alongside softer fabrics and padded elements. Precision and tactility coexist – architectural expression of RAINS’ adaptability and precision.
Sculptural Volumes
Rather than being concealed, the fitting rooms are consolidated into a single sculptural block,
wrapped in stainless steel and punctuated by saturated yellow interiors. A spatial anchor – both a pause and a pivot within the store.
The Experience
RAINS Hamburg draws visitors from first glance – yet, inside, it reveals itself gradually.
Disciplined and open at first, the space becomes increasingly intimate as you move inward — structured, calm, precise. A space where performance is embedded in material, rhythm, and function, like the brand it embodies.
