Sculpting Contrast: Dion Lee Melbourne

For Dion Lee’s new Melbourne flagship, we crafted a space that embodies contrast and movement. Soft meets hard, symmetry meets asymmetry, and classical elements are reinterpreted in a contemporary context. Glass, metal, and concrete converge to create an environment that feels raw yet refined—more than a store, it’s a sculptural, ever-shifting space that moves between boutique, gallery, and social hub, setting the stage for the label’s avant-garde vision.

Brief

This project was about more than showcasing garments—it was about creating a space that moves, evolves, and immerses. Dion Lee needed a flagship that felt like an extension of the brand itself:
A place where architecture mirrors design—fluid yet structured, bold yet refined.
A flexible environment that could function as a store, gallery, and gathering space.
A sensory experience, where materiality, form, and light shape how people move and interact.
Our challenge was to bring this vision to life—translating fashion into architecture, and architecture into experience.

Architecture & Design

Every element of this space plays with contrast and scale—textures shift, perspectives break, and light reshapes the environment as you move through it.
Glass, metal, concrete, clay, and leather converge in a tactile, sensory landscape.
The space flows from vast, open volumes to carved-out enclaves, drawing you deeper.
A muted palette lets textures do the talking, amplifying the dialogue between hard and soft, industrial and organic.
A central sculptural staircase stitches it all together, linking the grounded intensity of the lower level with the modular, light-washed space above.

Innovation & Technique

CNC-Cut Concrete Panels & Wall – A classical material, re-engineered. Foam panels are cut with precision, then hand-finished with concrete for depth without excess weight.
Floating Mirrored Fitting Rooms – Dissolving boundaries, playing with reflection, light, and movement.
Custom Modular Furnishings – Industrial influences meet tailored craftsmanship in leather seating, stacked display elements, and metallic accents.

The Experience

Downstairs – A rich palette of silver, bronze, and brushed gold metals meets cement, marble, and stone. The contrast is deliberate—controlled tension that pulls you in. Upstairs – Natural light shifts the atmosphere. Custom leather furnishings and floating mirrors create a play between visibility and opacity, openness and intimacy. Beyond retail – This isn’t just a store. It’s an evolving installation, a venue, a place for gathering. This is an environment designed for movement—the result? A space that’s as constructed and considered as the garments themselves. Dion Lee’s flagship is a space you feel.
