By Malene Birger Stockholm: A Living Room for the Modern Muse
Located in the commercial heart of Stockholm, our design for By Malene Birger reflects the brand’s signature blend of Scandinavian minimalism and bohemian elegance.
This is a space built around calm—layered neutrals, tactile surfaces, and curated details that evoke a quiet kind of luxury. A space that’s as confident and considered as the brand it houses, designed to let the collection breathe and the customer settle in.
Brief
The brief was simple, but specific: create a boutique that feels like a contemporary boudoir—feminine without excess, warm without noise, and true to the brand’s effortless aesthetic.
A soft, inviting space that draws people in through texture and tone, not spectacle.
A layout that adapts to both retail and presentation moments.
Custom elements that embody the brand’s relaxed yet elevated sensibility.
Architecture & Design
We kept the palette muted and fresh, letting materials and proportions do the work.
Tiled Statement – A long central counter with an integrated tiled sink anchors the space, highlighting materiality through simplicity.
Custom Craft – Bespoke cabinets and a central laminate table designed in collaboration with Abet Laminati echo the tilework in feel, if not form.
Layered Softness – Kvadrat curtains and custom upholstered sofas add a sense of comfort and softness, elevating the space into something closer to a living room than a retail floor.
Innovation & Technique
Small gestures, strong impact.
Tile-Like Laminate – The HPL laminate was custom developed to mimic the visual rhythm of tiles, bringing coherence across the space.
Minimal Intervention – We respected the existing architecture, letting the furniture and surfaces define the mood without overhauling the structure.
Seamless Use – The space flexes between showroom, event venue, and boutique—proof that good design doesn’t need to shout to be multifunctional.
