Alexander Wang Costa Mesa: Sculpted Contrast on the West Coast
The first Alexander Wang location on the U.S. West Coast introduces the brand’s updated concept to the American market. Located in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza—the largest shopping center on the West Coast—the store is a study in contrast: seamless and sharp, reflective and tactile, minimal and bold.
Brief
This was the debut of Alexander Wang’s new concept in the U.S., designed to create impact through material simplicity and spatial precision: Create a coherent visual language across sales area, POS, and façade. Use contrast—of texture, color, and form—to highlight the brand’s tension between luxury and edge. Embed all custom furniture and fixtures directly into the architectural language.
Architecture & Design
Polished Steel Pipes – Curved PSS cladding runs from façade to sales floor to POS, unifying the space. Mirrored Ceiling – Extends the space vertically and reinforces the store’s minimal material palette. Sparkle Concrete – Used for both floors and pillars, offering subtle shimmer and tactile solidity. Red Fitting Rooms – Covered floor-to-ceiling in mirrors, punctuated by a deep red carpet—an intentional disruption to the monochrome language.
Innovation & Technique
Monochrome, Multidimensional – Texture and light create variation within a tight palette.
Integrated Everything – Cash desk, furniture, and doors are all custom-made and embedded in the architecture.
Lighting Through Reflection – Surfaces are designed to bounce, refract, and shape ambient light without relying on obvious fixtures.
The Experience
]Alexander Wang Costa Mesa is immersive and unmistakable. It’s cool, controlled, and full of detail—offering a high-impact experience with a single jolt of color to keep it charged.
